RECOGNITION FOR THE DANIEL PEARL FOUNDATION

Center for Interfaith Studies was established in Faisalabad, Pakistan by the World Tolerance Organization (WTO), to commemorate the life of Daniel Pearl. The Center has initiated a series of lectures at Middle and High Schools on cultural and religious diversity and will house a library on Jewish studies furnished by the Foundation. The official inauguration of the Center is scheduled for February 21, 2009, the anniversary of Daniel's death, and will take place in the presence of the U.S. Consul General in Lahore, Pakistan. The inscription "In Memory of Daniel Pearl" will be installed outside the main gate of the Center. (February 2009)

A Mighty Heart – A feature-length film based on the book by Mariane Pearl, premiered in Los Angeles in June 2007 at a benefit screening for the Daniel Pearl Foundation. The DVD of the film, which includes a public service announcement on the Foundation narrated by CNN's Christiane Amanpour, was released in October 2007.

The Journalist and the Jihadi – An HBO documentary that premiered in 2006 and continues to air on HBO around the world, the film explores Daniel Pearl’s life, work, and principles. (2006)

The Purpose Prize – In 2006, the inaugural Purpose Prize was awarded to Professors Judea Pearl and Akbar Ahmed by the nonprofit corporation Civic Ventures for their work on the Daniel Pearl Dialogue for Muslim-Jewish Understanding. The prize is awarded to individuals over the age of 60 who are tackling society’s most difficult challenges. (2006)

NGO Status Awarded by the United Nations - The Daniel Pearl Foundation was granted the status of an associate of the Department of Public Information of the United Nations. (2006)

SGI-USA Justice Award – Given to Judea and Ruth Pearl “in recognition of their long-standing meritorious contributions and sincere dedication to peace, justice, and humanity.” (October 2005)

Peacemaker Award – Judea and Ruth Pearl were honored at the National Conflict Resolution Center’s 17th Annual Days of Dialogue and Peacemaker Awards. (March 2005)

2004 National Jewish Book Award for Anthology – Given to "I Am Jewish: Personal Reflections Inspired by the Last Words of Daniel Pearl,” edited by Judea and Ruth Pearl. The book has spawned public discussions in communities across the U.S. and Canada on what it means to be a Jew in the post 9/11 era. (Jewish Lights 2004)

Journalists Killed in the Line of Duty - An original 60-minute documentary, anchored by CNN’s Anderson Cooper, premiered on Tuesday, November 25, 2003. Network news anchors Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings and Dan Rather narrated segments. (November 2003)

Hebrew Union College Roger E. Joseph Prize – Awarded to Daniel Pearl, posthumously, "for his singular courage in carrying out his mission as a symbol of strength and hope for all humanity." The prize carried an award of $10,000 for the benefit of the Foundation. (May 2003)

Search for Common Ground Award for Peacemaking – Presented to the Foundation for “nurturing the truth-seeking and cross-cultural respect personified by Daniel's life and work.” (December 2002)
