Upon the news of Danny's death, his colleague Bryan Gruley wrote the song "For a Son" in Danny's memory and dedicated it to Danny and Mariane's son, Adam Pearl. Bryan performed "For a Son" on CNN's NewsNight With Aaron Brown, generating an enormous response from viewers. Since then, Bryan has graciously donated the song's rights to the Daniel Pearl Foundation. (Lyrics and audio clip can be found here.)

Bryan has also performed the song on NPR's Weekend Edition and at the Daniel Pearl Foundation's benefit concert in Novemeber 2002.
